The objective of this study was to observe whether a rotating magnetic field (RMF) could change the anomalous chemical wave propagation induced by a moderate‐intensity gradient static magnetic field (SMF) in an unstirred Belousov–Zhabotinsky (BZ) reaction. The application of the SMF (maximum magnetic flux density = 0.22 T, maximum magnetic flux density gradient = 25.5 T/m, and peak magnetic force product (flux density × gradient) = 4 T2/m) accelerated the propagation velocity in a two‐dimensional pattern. Characteristic anomalous patterns of the wavefront shape were generated and the patterns were dependent on the SMF distribution. The deformation and increase in the propagation velocity were diminished by the application of an RMF at a rotation rate of 1 rpm for a few minutes. Numerical simulation by means of the time‐averaged value of the magnetic flux density gradient or the MF gradient force over one rotation partially supported the experimental observations. These considerations suggest that RMF exposure modulates the chemical wave propagation and that the degree of modulation could be, at least in part, dependent on the time‐averaged MF distribution over one rotation. MR-integrated radiotherapy requires suitable dosimetry detectors to be used in magnetic fields. This study investigates the feasibility of using dedicated MR-compatible ionization chambers at MR-integrated radiotherapy devices. MR-compatible ionization chambers (Exradin A19MR, A1SLMR, A26MR, A28MR) were precisely modeled and their relative response in a 6MV treatment beam in the presence of a magnetic field was simulated using EGSnrc. Monte Carlo simulations were carried out with the magnetic field in three orientations: the magnetic field aligned perpendicular to the chamber and beam axis (transverse orientation), the magnetic field parallel to the chamber as well as parallel to the beam axis. Monte Carlo simulation results were validated with measurements using an electromagnet with magnetic field strength upto 1.1 T with the chambers in transverse orientation. The measurements and simulation results were in good agreement, except for the A26MR ionization chamber in transverse orientation. The maximum increase in response of the ionization chambers observed was 8.6% for the transverse orientation. No appreciable change in chamber response due to the magnetic field was observed for the magnetic field parallel to the ionization chamber and parallel to the photon beam.Polarity and recombination correction factor were experimentally investigated in the transverse orientation. The polarity effect and recombination effect were not altered by a magnetic field.This study further investigates the response of the ionization chambers as a function of the chambers’ rotation around their longitudinal axis. A variation in response was observed when the chamber was not rotationally symmetric, which was independent of the magnetic field.  相似文献

The linkages between biological communities and ecosystem function remain poorly understood along gradients of human‐induced stressors. We examined how resource provisioning (nutrient recycling), mediated by native freshwater mussels, influences the structure and function of benthic communities by combining observational data and a field experiment. We compared the following: (1) elemental and community composition (algal pigments and macroinvertebates) on live mussel shells and on nearby rocks across a gradient of catchment agriculture and (2) experimental colonisation of benthic communities on live vs. sham shells controlling for initial community composition and colonisation duration. We show that in near pristine systems, nutrient heterogeneity mediated by mussels relates to greater biodiversity of communities, which supports the notion that resource heterogeneity can foster biological diversity. However, with increased nutrients from the catchment, the relevance of mussel‐provisioned nutrients was nearly eliminated. While species can persist in disturbed systems, their functional relevance may be diminished or lost.  相似文献

The grey partridge Perdix perdix is of conservation concern owing to habitat heterogeneity losses and the negative impact of other environmental factors, e.g., pesticide use, predators, weather or shooting pressure, which are known to be associated with population decline. By an 11-year-period study in an intensively cultivated farmland located in the Paris basin, we aimed to relate the changes in grey partridge population dynamics with the changes in agriculture, monthly rainfall and shooting pressure. Summer drought occurred at the middle time of the study period. At the start of our study, a new cultivation, winter-wheat broadcast in maize-stubble fields, was introduced that probably improved the habitat. But in the next years, there was a loss in habitat diversity due to the disappearance of pastures dedicated to sheep rearing, removal of non-cropped areas and field boundaries and increase in the mean field size. Shooting was annually adjusted to what the owner believed to be a wise harvest. In post-breeding coveys, both percentages of hens with young among total hens and young-to-successful hens ratios first increased and then decreased. The mean brood size was rather weak during the dryness incident. The number of pairs in a more heterogeneous sector was always greater than in a less one. In both sectors, spring abundance first increased and then decreased. In the second half of the study period, the shooting quotas were reduced, especially when the mean brood size fell down. Low hatching rates of clutches and low chick survival rates explain the population decline, as the results are convincing. To stop the population decline in intensive arable farmland, good breeding success is needed. This can be provided by favourable habitats for hens to nest and for chicks to feed.  相似文献

This preliminary study examines the feasibility and applications of pyrolysis and biochar in China to understand issues about bioenergy generation, agricultural cost savings and enhancement of atmospheric quality. Multiple agricultural and animal wastes are analyzed and quantitative measures of economic and environmental benefits are provided. The Poyang Lake, one of the most important clean water lakes in China, is examined to see how pyrolysis and biochar applications can be beneficiary to farmers and society in terms of the economic and greenhouse gas values. Rice straw, corn stover, poplar, orchard wastes, animal wastes and open pasture wastes are primary feedstocks for fast and slow pyrolysis. The results show that both fast and slow pyrolysis are profitable under current situations where corn stover-based pyrolysis yields the highest economic benefits but that of animal wastes-based can offset more GHG emissions. Rice straw yields a loss but it can still be a potential choice since the material is the most popular in study area. Sensitivity analysis is provided to understand the changes of economic and environmental benefits under various market conditions and the results indicate that in general, significant profits of pyrolysis and biochar application bring additional margin of safety and therefore, pyrolysis and biochar does not incur a loss unless input costs increase more than 53% to 64%.  相似文献

Experimental investigations were carried out to evaluate the effect of continuous and delayed exposure of power frequency electromagnetic fields at 5, 50 and 100 μT on germinating Vicia faba seedlings as a model system. These studies included physical parameters (length and girth of primary roots, number as well as length of lateral roots and imbibition), major biochemical constituents (total sugar, protein, and fat) and activities of important housekeeping enzymes (amylases, proteases, and lipase) at 2, 4, and 8 days of growth. Also, mitotic index and rate of DNA synthesis were studied at day 8 of growth. There was no significant change in physical parameters and major biochemical constituents between control and experimental groups. Also, the comparison between the control and experimental group of seeds showed that α-amylase activity significantly decreased at 5, 50 and 100 μT on day 2 and 4 of growth. β-amylase and protease (37C & 50C) showed a significant decrease in activity on day 2 and 4 of growth at 100 μT, whereas activity of lipase significantly decreased only on day 2 of growth at 100 μT. At day 8 of growth, all enzyme activities reverted back to the same as control. Also, there was a significant increase in mitotic index as well as 3H-thymidine uptake at 100 μT delayed exposure on day 8. The present study suggests that exposure to power frequency electromagnetic fields up to 100 μT on germinating seedlings does not cause any permanent damage since the initial alteration under the magnetic fields in some important housekeeping enzymes involved in the onset of seed germination were returened to control values on day 8 of growth. Also, the growth of the germinated seedlings was found to be enhanced by the application of power frequency magnetic fields (100 μT) as evidenced by mitotic index and 3H-thymidine uptake.  相似文献

The effects of electromagnetic fields (EMFs) in physiotherapy have been discussed mainly with regard to the patient's safety, while the operator's safety is neglected. This paper presents the medical assessment and specific tendencies in the health status of personnel in physical therapy wards – where the EMFs are everyday background factor. This paper summarizes the somatic part of results from the study among physiotherapy personnel from facilities with different equipment and work load by using survey card designed by us for health status screening in somatic and neurobehavioral aspects. The main specific somatic findings and complaints in investigated group include parodontosis – 42%; cardiovascular disorders – 41.6%; allergic conditions with skin or systemic manifestation – 40.8%; photosensibilization – 34.1%; skin diseases – 31.5%; musculoskeletal disorders – 30.0% and neoplasm disorders – 7.5%. Keeping in mind that better part of the personnel in the physical therapy units is female, a special attention was paid to the pathology of the reproductive system; menstrual disturbances are observed in 20.0%. These findings are collected in complex for the first time in physiotherapy personnel, and when data were available from other professional groups, we found a good correlation.  相似文献

Spectral transmission through the dorsal head cuticle of Megoura viciae was measured. Although all wavelengths between 370 and 800 nm are transmitted there is more absorption of the shorter wavelengths. These data are used to demonstrate the fact that the photoperiodic receptor, which lies in the brain, is more sensitive to shorter wavelengths than has been indicated by whole animal action spectra.  相似文献

Some kinds of agricultural castoffs such as sawdust (SD) and the powder of coconut coir (PCC) were used as growing media to substitute peat moss for the New Guinea Impatiens. It showed that all the substitute media should fit for the growth of the root system without disturbing the spatial development of the root. The growths of the plants in substitute media are all exceeded that in PM or only below the contrast indistinctly. The comprehensive indexes of plants in PCC and SD are 0.76 and 0.98, and the comprehensive indexes of plants in PSS and PPH are all higher than that in PM. It means that those four kinds of substitutes can be used to take the place of the peat moss totally as soilless growing media. In the period of 50–100 s, the differences of the Ultra-Weak Photon Intensity of the leaves among all the treatments are different significantly, and the trend is similar to that of the root. The photosynthesis of the New Guinea Impatiens is very different to the data of morphology evaluation indexes. There is no noticeable effect of the growing medium itself on the elements contents of the plant. The determinant may be the nutrients solution. There is no significant difference of the contents of chlorophyll in the plant that was planted in the substitute media between the PM. Under almost the same growth conditions, the Hoagland nutrients solution can make a steady and balanced supply of nutrients for the plant which cannot be evidently disturbed by the type of media. The substitute media have lower performance of preserving moisture and fertility, under normal cultivating conditions, the plants developed well, but in order to keep the plant in good condition, the substitute media depends more on extraneous nutrients from nutrients solution than PM.  相似文献
